About the foundation

The foundation began when 27-year-old Margit Andersen purchased a holiday home in Lyngså in 1973. The intention of the house purchase was to create a base where the young woman could feel at home while on holiday away from her job, which at the time was in the EU’s headquarters in Brussels.

In 1974, Kjeld Andersen met the love of his life when he met Margit by chance in Brussels. The relationship blossomed and the couple married and held a wedding reception in the newly built holiday home in Lyngså. During their honeymoon in Lapland in Finland, where they stayed in a tent, the couple decided that they would rent out their newly built holiday home. The intention was that they could earn a little money while they were away.

During their honeymoon, Kjeld wondered about how you could get in contact with the people from near or far who wanted to spend their holidays in Danish holiday homes that were unused for most of the year. Was there a way to bring holiday visitors and holiday home owners together and could he help with this? The couple established a small holiday home rental agency in 1979 and the business developed rapidly.

Today, Sol og Strand Feriehusudlejning A/S is one of the biggest Danish-owned holiday home rental agencies, with a staff of 135 employees and over 1000 seasonal employees.

In 2019, married couple Margit and Kjeld Andersen decided to transfer the majority of shares to a foundation whose purpose is to support charitable organisations and local projects. They also wanted with all their hearts to ensure that Sol og Strand continued to be a Danish-owned company – today and tomorrow.

The intention is that holiday visitors, employees and holiday home owners all feel that they are part of a “holiday with a heart of gold” when it is with Sol og Strand.
